December Meeting of Covenant Women of the Church

December 13, 2010, 6:45pm

Book Club - meeting Jan 22, 10am at MaryAnn Pippin 's house, discussion on House of Hope, Book 3, "Who Do I Lean On?" Bring a snack or drink to share.

Old business: gifts for our two Christmas families were brought unwrapped to the meeting. if you signed up to help one of these families, please bring your gift(s) Wednesday or Sunday to Christy Burnette.

New Business: a family connected with our church, mom is out of work with two high school sons & a middle school age child, can only get Christmas help for the youngest child. Christy suggested that we take up a collection to help them out. A basket was passed and we decided to get a $50 Visa card to help the family with groceries.

The Dustin Witherspoon family lost their house to a fire, 23 yr old Dustin was killed in the fire. His wife & baby boy were injured, and lost all their belongings. Stephanie will send a e-mail with needs, including sizes, etc. We know the baby wears size 2 diapers & 3-6 month clothes. We will accept donations to help this family, as well. We will also donate a $50 gift card from WOC funds.

Bridal Shower for Jennifer Yates

Women of the Church is hosting a bridal shower on Sunday, March 21, 2010 from 2:30 to 4pm in the Family Life Center Hope Room for Jennifer Yates.  Jennifer and Micah will be wed on April 10th in Savannah, Georgia and are registered at Belk's, Macy's and Bed, Bath & Beyond.

March Meeting Follow Up

Sunshine/Pick-Me-Up Basket - you still have time to bring something for Glen Rogers' basket. He is home from the hospital, but with a feeding tube, unable to take anything by mouth for the time being. Suggested items: books & DVD's about the Old West.

Baby Bottle Blessings are due during the month of March. Bring them to Kathy Efird anytime during the month. Make checks to"The Gate"(Gate Crisis Pregnancy Center-Harrisburg)

Beth Moore Simulcast -- "So Long Insecurity" at Providence Baptist Church, Saturday, April 24, 10 to 4 pm(box lunch included). Tickets are $20 in advance (by April 18) and $25 at the door.

Housekeeping issues - crayon or markers on the white tables in the Hope Room, we should make sure the kids are using washable markers. Also we should be mindful of leaving dishes in the drainer on the sink in the kitchen.

Table Cloths - the ones we were trying to find at Bed, Bath & Beyond are no longer available there. Becky will try some restaurant supply stores so we will have enough for all of the tables.

February Meeting Follow Up

Sunshine/Pick-Me-Up Basket for Glen Rogers - suggested items - books, DVD's, snacks suitable for diabetics, gift cards for take-out. Please bring all items to church by Sunday, February 21, 2010. Basket will be placed at the back of the Sanctuary for collection.

Upcoming Bridal Shower - for Jennifer Yates & Micah McGee, Sunday, March 21. She is registered at Macy's & Bed, Bath & Beyond. Christy will have a sign-up list closer to the date.

Book Club for February - Saturday, February 13, choice of two times, 9am (bring breakfast type foods/coffee) or 6pm(bring a snack or drink to share). "Shadow of Doubt" by Terry Blackstock. 2nd book in 911 Series. Please come join us at one or both of the times.

Old Business: Baby Bottle blessings are due the first of March for Gate Pregnancy Resource Center.

Casseroles for the Hahns - the ones already here will be taken this week. We will accept them again this coming week.

New Business: 1) the Young Adult class would like to do some Community Service projects, starting with helping church memebers who need work done around their homes that they are unable to do for themand possibly helping in a "soup kitchen", etc.

January Meeting Follow - up

Old Business:
  • Baby Bottle Blessings will be collected the first of March. We decided to give the collected funds to the Gate
  • Pregnancy Resource Center this year since it is located in Harrisburg.
  • Stephanie reminded us that we still need to pay for the Ephesians study guide if we haven't already done so.
  • Laurie thanked all those who gave Christmas gifts to the Hix family.
 New Business:

  • There is going to be an '80's Party on Saturday. Jan 30, 2010. 6:30 pm for No Limit Youth thru Adults. Please invite your friends & neighbors. Dress in '80's attire - a prize for the most original costume(s). There will be music, dancing & games. Bring food & friends Child care will be provided.
  • Tablecloths - some new round white ones are needed to replace the old "wrinkly" ones. We already have about 10 and have 17 of the round tables. Becky will take inventory of what we have and see about purchasing from Bed, Bath & Beyond enough for all the tables. We will take donations to pay for them. 
  • Ministry Opportunity: single mom of two small children, former co-worker of Amy Hudgens, was laid off last week. We decided to take some donations for her. Some needs are as follows: Disposable diapers(size 3 & 4), wipes, children's & adult shampoo & other toiletries, paper towels, toilet tissue, canned foods and other non-perishables. We voted to purchase a $100 gift card(from W.O.C.funds) to a grocery store nearest to her. We will get that info from Amy. Please bring donated items to church on Wednesday or Sunday. We will have a donation box in the back of ther church for them.
